「華麗一族」的高收視不但讓塵封34年的原著再度熱賣，一舉進入暢銷排行榜，更讓2年沒拍日劇的木村拓哉揚眉吐氣。曾表示不演出相同角色的他，在美髮師、機長、賽車手之後，這次為了詮釋財團第二代更特地剪去10公分的長髮、並穿上聖羅蘭的高級西服，帥氣的造型一出現在螢光幕，即便是30萬日幣的高價西服也立刻被搶購一空。就是這股無人能敵的螢幕魅力，讓製作人在選角時，除了木村拓哉不作第二人想。尤其「華麗一族」被TBS視為提振近年疲軟收視的年度大戲，全體劇組更是有背水一戰的決心，找來國民偶像木村擔任主角，製作人即表示「木村是個存在感強烈、光芒四射的演員、並且擁有讓人喜愛、天生領導人的氣質，這與劇中角色完全符合！」就連原著山崎豐子也力挺「萬俵鐵平是個兼具浪漫與堅強的角色，必須是擁有非常強烈意志力，同時擁有悲傷眼神的演員才有辦法完美詮釋，而木村的眼神中就透露出純粹及淡淡的哀傷，因此我十分期待他在劇裡的表現！」
